To know me is to know that I love all things self-care. I like to think of myself as a self-care enthusiast, if you will.

But I can admit there are times when I let self-care get away from me and find myself going days and even weeks without doing the things that nurture me the most. It’s easy to get lost in a routine of making everyone and everything else a priority before yourself. When this happens to me, my world starts to reflect the lack of intentional care that I’ve missing.

Self-care does not only consists of spa days and bath bombs (these things are nice though). It also includes meditating, exercising, and being present with yourself. Self-care for me is anything that I am doing for myself intentionally. Sometimes this looks like massage appointments. And other days it looks like cleaning my room really well so that I can get peaceful sleep in a really clean room. And on a lot of days, it looks like sleep. It’s all about the intention that I put behind it.

The best way for me to stay on top of my intentional self-care is by following a routine. These are days when I make time (notice I didn’t say have time) to really nurture myself in some way. I make sure that I announce this appointment with myself to my family so that I can set the expectation to not be bothered during this time. My husband understands how important this time is to me as well as how much it truly enhances my family because I’m getting a chance to replenish- which is really the point of self-care in the first place, to replenish yourself. The more I get a chance to replenish, the better I am for my family and the better our day to day becomes.

In a later post I will discuss some of my self-care routine. One of my goals is to add to the community of self-care advocates because it truly does make a difference in your quality of life, no matter what your income is. Self-care is always achievable when we learn to put intention behind taking care of ourselves. Self-care is necessary for everyone to experience a joyful, full life.
